The Teaching Coach: Adam Wilkins

Adam Wilkins is the poster child for the most unlikely debate nerd representing all the ADHD late blooming kids who hate to read but love to talk. He started at age 6, being dragged to tournaments with his older sisters and paid (by his mother) up to $5 for every speech he did, earning him an average of $60 per tournament. He discovered a passion for argumentation, every style of debate, extemp and limited preps doing football in the fall, and debate in the spring, fun and friends being his highest values. He lost a lot. But he won too. In his junior year at NITOC he and his TP partner clawed their way from 74th to 2nd place. His football friends mocked his 2nd place curse which seemed his lot until as a college sophomore he got 1st place as the Varsity IPDA national champion. He’s graduating on May 5 with his Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Park University and will begin working at the Overland Park Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as soon as he takes the NCLEX!
With his scholarship he still got paid to do speeches so he competed in International Public Dabate (IPDA_ extemp, impromptu, and persuasive. That NITOC 2nd place TP debate case came in handy when he turned it into a Persuasive and was the first Park U student to represent Missouri at the Interstate Oratorical Contest in 100 years. This year he was the Missouri State Persuasive Champion and made it to octafinals at IPDA nationals.
Adam is on the leadership team of the vibrant InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and regularly leads Bible studies on campus. He is the debate coach for Next Gen Stoa speech and debate and won the Park University Student Leader Award. Adam and one of his Stoa debate friends started Outreach Digital Marketing and are now “businessmen doing business things.”
