Speech Events

Open Interpretation: The competitor creates an original compilation of prose or poetry (including unpublished work) surrounding a central theme or story.
Duo Interpretation: Two competitors create an original rendition from literature which captivates and moves the audience without interacting face-to-face.
Dramatic and Humorous Interpretation: Competitors select and analyze literature, then bring it to life through the creative use of voice, movement, and facial expression, without the aid of costumes or props.
Mars Hill Impromptu: The competitor uses books, movies, and other genre, as an evangelistic bridge to discuss common themes, worldviews, and societal effects, holding them up in light of Christian truth found in the Bible.
Apologetics: The competitor is given 4 minutes to prepare a speech which defends a tenet of the Christian faith in a knowledgeable, sincere, and winsome manner.
Extemporaneous Speaking: The competitor is given 30 minutes to prepare an answer to a given current events question using their own reference files.
Expository Speaking: The competitor prepares an original speech which explains a topic usually with the help of visual aids or props.
Original Oratory: A prepared speech, written by the competitor, on a topic of the speaker’s choice.
Persuasive Speaking: The competitor prepares an original speech which advocates a specific position or course of action.
Interp in a Box: In this interpretive event, students will be acting out a story using only the props that can fit in a box!

Parliamentary Debate

The Parliamentary Debate resolutions are announced / released prior to the beginning of each round.

Parliamentary debate is an activity in which teams of two students debate one another in an extemporaneous form of debate in which their topic is given just minutes prior to the round. Competitors to develop and defend positions on a wide range of issues that could be fact, value, policy or scenario in nature. Parliamentary debate (aka Parli) not only relies on quick thinking but also on an accumulation of general knowledge on a broad range of subjects.

Lincoln Douglas Debate

Resolved: Criminal justice ought to prioritize rehabilitation over retribution, restitution or deterrence.

Lincoln Douglas Value debate uses a one on one format in which students discuss and debate competing values or value systems or ideas held by individuals, societies or governments.

Team Policy Debate

Resolved: The United States Federal Government should substantially reform its policy towards one or more countries in Europe.

Team Policy debate is an activity in which teams of two students debate one another addressing issues of contemporary public policy. The policy may be domestic or international in nature.
